The tourist service in
situé à Avignon :

Barthelasse Island lies between Avignon and Villeneuve les Avignon, between the two arms of the River Rhône - the 'grand Rhône' on the Villeneuve side, the 'petit Rhône' on the Avignon side, and the island is 700 hectares of green nature and countryside just minutes on foot from the historical city centre.

Approximately a thousand people live on Barthelasse Island, most of the island is farmland, and has not been developed because it is floodable. There are playing fields and leisure activities - a skate park, soccer field, swimming pool, day camp centre, and youth hostel.

The tow path that lines the banks of the river is a peaceful and beautiful strolling area with breathtaking viexs of the Pont d'Avignon, the Rocher des Doms and the Palace of the Popes. The tow path is ideal for jogging, walking and sitting by the riverside.

If you would like to see the entire island, nothing could be better than cycling. The island is flat and there are many bike paths!
You can buy fruits and vegetables and local products at the farms, you can visit the Manguin distillery, or simply ride amidst the orchards.
There are many places to stay: hotels, guest rooms, self-catering units (gîtes) and campsites, for those looking for peace and quiet.

Parts of the riverbanks on Barthelasse Island are classified as Natural Zones of Ecological, Fauna and Flora Interest (ZNIEFF) listed as Natural Riches. There is great biodiversity with nesting birds, hedgehogs, shrews, badgersn beavers, stone martens, dormouses. sparrowhawks, herons, ducks and cormorants.

A river boat (ferry cable) takes you across the river free of charge. Cars can also cross the Rhone to Barthelasse Island on the Daladier bridge.

The place to go for relaxing times for the whole family!

good tips and local secrets

View point in the middle of Pont Daladier

Pont Daladier may not be particularly beautiful, but from the middle of the bridge, the view is magnificent! You can see the Rhône, the city walls, the Pont d'Avignon and Mont Ventoux (and when the weather is clear, you can even see the relief). If you can, try and see it at night when the Pont d'Avignon is lit up!
